Police investigating an assault in Dunedin want the public's help to identify two men.

They say the attack at 1.30am on Saturday, December 14 happened following an altercation at a fast food restaurant in George St.

Police said after leaving the restaurant, a man and woman aged in their 20s were followed north on George St by two men.

The male victim was approached and knocked unconscious.

Detective Mark Durant said the man continued to suffer headaches following the attack and was receiving support from police. 

Anyone with information that may help was asked to call 105, quoting file number 191214/2693.
