Mrs van Eunen said when she was 18 months old her family came to New Zealand and fell in love with the country and wanted to move here.
They eventually came back and settled in 2005.
Her parents had an interior design business in the Netherlands and when they arrived in New Zealand her father returned to his trade as an interior painter.
Her father, who was originally from England, became a New Zealand citizen in Christchurch last month and yesterday was her turn.
Watched by her New Zealander husband John van Eunen and their two young daughters Mrs van Eunen was presented with her citizenship certificate by Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich.
Being married to a New Zealander meant she could have dual citizenship, Mrs van Eunen said.
Although he had a Dutch name her husband was born in New Zealand.
From almost every corner of the world more than 60 people came together at the Glenroy Auditorium, in Dunedin, to be sworn in as New Zealand citizens.
Some pledged in te reo Māori, others in English.
All wore big smiles as they received their certificate and a native tree, which symbolised their planting of new roots in their new country, Mr Radich said.
