The teenage skateboarder critically injured after colliding with a car in Mosgiel was an international student from Hong Kong who had been at school for just a few weeks.
The Otago Daily Times understands the 16-year-old had studied at Taieri College for just over four weeks before the Saturday night incident, in which he collided with a car in Wingatui Rd about 9.30.
He was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition.
His family was understood to have arrived from Hong Kong.
The driver of the vehicle was not thought to have been injured in the incident and was helping police with their inquiries.
A police spokeswoman said yesterday no charges had been laid against the driver, but it was unclear if any were likely.
