Three generations of one family have come together to celebrate a significant milestone at the Mosgiel Central Kindergarten.

Nicola Ralph, her daughter Sarah Hayward and Ms Haywards' two sons, Tristan and Kieran, were among those partying with cake and balloons to mark the kindergarten's 70th birthday this week.

All three generations of the family had spent time at the kindergarten, and Ms Ralph said it was a special achievement for the kindergarten and a proud moment for her family.

About 100 people attended the celebration, which included class photos and records, face painting, bouncy castles and plenty of cake.

Ms Ralph said the kindergarten was a ''top notch facility and what it offers the children that are coming through is amazing''.

Kindergarten head teacher Rebecca Gillan said the celebration was ''not just about the children''.

''It's about the community coming together and their support being celebrated.''

The kindergarten's birthday present was the addition of two new Lilliput Libraries, one for children and one for adults, decorated in children's' handprints. Both were available for the community to use at any time, she said.
