With the town hall clock ticking down to noon on Saturday, Ruth Vaughan and partner Gerald Davies parked in the Octagon to complete their voting papers for Dunedin's local body election.
"But you've got to fit it in, even if it's the last minute, because it's very important."
A drive and drop voting service, run by the Dunedin City Council, was helpful, Ms Vaughan said.
"I didn't actually realise it finished at 12[pm], but that was fine ... life, family, running a business, it's a lot to fit in.

Their vehicle, a Land Rover Series I, with its roof collapsed, prevented her filling out their voting papers on the drive.
The couple cast the last votes in the Dunedin at the Civic Centre. Overall, Dunedin voters earned their reputation as last-minute voters — 16,110 votes (about 40%) were cast on Friday or Saturday.
