Police are investigating a serious assault in Andersons Bay on Monday that left a man unconscious.
Officers were called to the property about 3pm after a call from a third party, a police national media centre spokeswoman said.
"The man was breathing but not responsive,'' the Wellington-based spokeswoman said.
"It does seem to be just two men involved.''
She was unable to provide more details yesterday, including whether it was drug-related, as police were still speaking to the person who reported the assault.
St John spokesman Ian Henderson said an ambulance did not transport the injured man to Dunedin Hospital on Monday.
The incident comes after a recent surge of violent assaults in the city.
On June 26, a man dressed as a woman was involved in the sexual assault of another man in Albany St about 5.30am.
Police have not arrested anyone in connection with that.
On June 22, a 55-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was bashed in a home invasion in Church St, Green Island.
Police are still hunting for the man wanted in relation to the incident.
On June 19, a woman was hit on the head with a baseball bat inside her Craigleith St, Northeast Valley, home by another woman, who has also not been arrested.
Mosgiel police are still investigating an incident in which four men beat a 45-year-old man in Severn St on June 16.
A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault after another man was left bleeding from the face in the Octagon on June 13.
