Mesmerising machines

Dunedin CNC machining and 3-D-printing company United Machinists chief technical officer Alex Ramsay shows Arabella Douglas (8) hardware used in cameras that filmed action for Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible: Fallout during a tour organised by the New Zealand International Science Festival yesterday.

A fully automated 5-axis machine, robots in action and a metal and plastics 3-D-printing machine were on display.

The public met some of the company’s apprentices and graduates and heard about their career pathways.
