MetService lifts warnings

Significant snow warnings for Otago have been lifted by MetService as the polar blast moves north.

The warnings, which had been in place for nearly a week, have been replaced by cautions about black ice, as a ridge moves over the South Island bringing ideal frost conditions.

Frosts up to 6deg were predicted for inland Otago from tomorrow and through the weekend, but along the coast the temperature was expected to drop to just 3degC.

On the plus side, MetService is predicting temperatures to hit double figures in Dunedin on Saturday (10degC) and Sunday (12degC), after a week of single figures.

In inland Otago, highs of 9degC in Queenstown and 12degC in Wanaka are forecast.
