New fertility clinic talks

The firm taking over the South's fertility service is negotiating to set up a new clinic in central Dunedin.

Fertility Associates will take over the Otago Fertility Service clinic at Dunedin Hospital next week.

Chief executive Alex Price, of Auckland, said Dunedin Hospital had needed the old clinic in early 2016 for another purpose.

The firm was negotiating to secure the vacant site to refit by early next year.

''The refit will involve construction of consulting and administration areas, which will utilise a standard office fabrication.

''The laboratory will involve a specialised fit-out with an air handling system.

''We have built four clinics in the last eight years and while we appreciate the time-line is demanding, we believe it is feasible.''

The outsourcing was finalised by the Southern District Health Board in late 2013, and Fertility Associates was named as provider in October last year.

Fertility Associates has secured publicly funded fertility services for all South Island health boards, which are now managed under a single agreement.

The Southern District Health Board did not respond to a request for information.
