New scholarship offered

A scholarship for an Otago healthcare practitioner keen to undertake research in complementary and alternative medicine is being offered by Integrative Health Trust Otago.

Trust deputy chairwoman Dr Monika Clark-Grill said there was a lack of research in the complementary and alternative medicine field and the scholarship was designed to support someone to undertake a masters paper at the University of Canterbury on such research.

The course will be run by Prof Ian Coulter, a graduate from RAND/University of California, Centre for health policy study and the institute of educational management at Harvard University.

It looks at specific issues in this type of research, research design, data collection and analysis, ethical issues and dissemination of results.

The scholarship of about $2000 is open to conventional healthcare practitioners as well as those practising alternative medicine and is not restricted to doctors.
