No surprises in at least one election result today.
Powerhouse South Island-based iwi, Ngai Tahu, has re-elected Sir Mark Solomon for the three-year role of kaiwhakahaere this morning.
The election was held at a Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu (Tront) meeting, as per a policy adopted in April 2010.
Sir Mark, the Kaikoura Tront representative, was the only nominated candidate for the role of chairman, a position he has served since 1998,
In his election statement, Sir Mark said "Ngai Tahu can expect to play an ever expanding role in the economy, and have greater influence - indeed partnership - in the future cultural, social and environmental direction of our nation''.
He was expected to issue a statement on Monday, after tribal members had been informed of the decision, a spokeswoman said.
Last year Sir Mark was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to Maori and business.
Lisa Tumahai, representative for Ngati Waewae, was elected as deputy kaiwhakahaere.
