No major disruptions expected during talks

Despite Dunedin bus drivers taking time out to discuss a fair payment agreement today, union organisers and the Otago Regional Council are not expecting any major disruptions to the bus schedules.

Dunedin Tramways Union secretary Philip Mathews said two drivers’ meetings were scheduled.

The first would be from 11am-1pm, and a second would be held between 7pm and 9pm, both at the Salvation Army Hall in Princes St.

He expected about 80 bus drivers to attend each meeting.

They are among an estimated 10,000 bus drivers across the country having similar meetings.

"We’ve organised it to have no disruptions for the bus runs in Dunedin.

"We’ve organised extra drivers to accommodate all those others that will need time off."

Otago Regional Council transport manager Lorraine Cheyne said she had spoken to bus route contractors Go Bus and Ritchies, and neither company was expecting major disruption on the Dunedin or Queenstown networks today.

However, she advised passengers to check bus timetables online.

"Passengers should keep an eye on the Orbus website and Transit app for service notifications."
