A Dunedin artist is seeking information on creative groups operating in the city to build an online directory in a bid to get more people creating and keeping healthy.

Community artist Alicia Hall said the Otago Polytechnic design department had agreed to build her a website to list the creative groups operating in Dunedin.

When the website went live she hoped it would promote creativity in the city.

The website would be a public resource "bridging a gap'' by linking groups and people.

The city was brimming with craft and art groups, but often it was difficult to find them, she said.

"This project is about making it very clear for people what is available.''

She hoped more people would join the groups because the repetitive movement in making an item was therapeutic and linked to wellbeing, she said.

The Dunedin School of Art graduate designed the not-for-profit project with a long-term dream of securing funding to open an art studio in South Dunedin to expose a greater number of people to being part of a creative process, Mrs Hall said.

Groups wanting to be listed on the website can email hall@createwellbeing.co.nz
