A photograph from a candlelight vigil at Woodhaugh Gardens is likely to be printed and given to officials at the international climate change conference in Copenhagen.

The Nick Holmes photograph of a candle-laden small boat sailing on the Woodhaugh Gardens paddling pool was picked as one of the top 10 photographs sent to the international climate change group 350.org from vigils around the world.

Three vigils held in the Dunedin area, at Woodhaugh, Broad Bay and Waitati, were among more than 3000 vigils in 130 countries supporting a fair, ambitious and binding climate treaty.

Dunedin 350 member and vigil organiser Jinty MacTavish said hundreds of people from all walks of life had attended the three vigils which were to "send light" to the climate negotiators' meeting.

All vigils, timed for the midpoint of the conference, were held under the banner "The World Wants a Real Deal".

The photographs would show the depth of support for a strong climate treaty as world leaders went into the final, critical week of negotiations, she said.

It was expected that the small boat photograph, because it had made the top 10 photographs, would be printed and handed to officials at Copenhagen.

So far industrialised nations' targets, including those proposed by New Zealand, fell well short of what would be required to give the world a chance of getting back to the safe level of 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
