Police have raised the alarm about potentially deadly sunstrike hitting the streets at this time of year.

The common piece of advice is to look at the median strip, but Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen of Dunedin warned against this.

“You just pull over to the side of the road and wait for your vision to clear.”

At risk hotspots in Dunedin include the main road near Fairfield, Lookout Point and Stuart St.

Sunstrike had not been reported as a cause of a crash in recent days, but had been anecdotally noted, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.

How about installing warning signs before sunstrike-prone stretches of road.

Even better, how about we all become better drivers and slow down or stop if we have limited vision? What else should we be warned about on the road as we drive? Rain on the road? Heavy traffic? Fog?

There are some signs near fog or gust prone areas. Should we remove them or maybe cease road code altogether like in India to become better drivers?
