A digger makes progress demolishing the derelict Princes St and Stafford St buildings in Dunedin yesterday.

The demolition which began in September was expected to take 10 weeks and the properties at 380-394 Princes St and 11 Stafford St would be demolished by Scope Group.

A Totara-Dunedin Properties spokeswoman said 11 Stafford St was levelled yesterday and deconstruction was complete with the demolition material now being removed from the Stafford St site.

The spokeswoman said the completion of the site’s demolition meant machinery could access the back of the Princes St site.

In the next part of the demolition workers will aim to excavate through the Princes St facades by the end of this week, she said.
