Mystery surrounds a multimillion-dollar private jet from Utah which is sitting at Dunedin Airport.

The Bombardier Global 5000 jet, registered to Wells Fargo Bank in Salt Lake City, had been at the airport since the start of the week, airport communications manager Megan Crawford said.

It is understood the jet arrived in Dunedin from Bali and the American occupants were flown privately to Queenstown.

The jet, which could carry up to 13 passengers, was expected to remain at Dunedin Airport until the middle of next week, the source said.

Queenstown Airport communications manager Jen Andrews said the jet was probably parked in Dunedin because Queenstown Airport was full.

''Parking is a problem at the moment. It's winter and we're really busy.

''We often can't house private jets here when we're in our peak winter schedule.''

The BD-700-1A11 aircraft is registered to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest NA Trustee.

It has a maximum flight ceiling of 51,000 feet and regular travel height of 41,000 feet.

The jet is 29.2m long with a maximum range of 9656km and maximum speed of 934kmh.

Wells Fargo provides finance and leasing services for corporate jets or turboprops for its clients.

The bank's corporate trust lease services sales spokesman, Eric Morgan, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
