A group of prominent buildings in Dunedin’s city centre are nearing completion.

The Otago Regional Council’s new premises were set to be finished by December, chief executive Richard Saunders said.

He said the building consent was issued in July 2023, groundworks on the site commenced in August 2023, and the redevelopment construction began in March 2024.

The cost of the redevelopment is $54.5 million. ORC will contribute $11.2m, Port Otago fund the remaining $43.3m. The building can accommodate up to 300 staff, who will move into the premises early next year.

Meanwhile, ACC deputy chief executive Stewart McRobie said Dunedin’s new ACC building should be complete by the final quarter of this year.

The four-storey, 8600sqm office building is a joint venture between Ngāi Tahu Property and the ACC Investment team. Ngāi Tahu Property is the development manager, and ACC will lease the building for 20 years from the joint venture.
