Relief events to be held in Dunedin for the Christchurch earthquake are planned for this weekend, as response to the tragedy continues.
The website www.dunedin.govt.nz/earthquakerelief was set up on Thursday by the Dunedin City Council to provide a mechanism for co-ordinating support, following an outpouring of offers of help from Dunedin resident.
Dunedin City Council communications officer Hannah Molloy, who is organising the site, said the response had been strong, with 225 page views from 71 people by mid-afternoon yesterday.
The site includes a list of fundraising events, along with other information on how to help.
Two fundraising events for this weekend were already on the site, one to provide pre-packed non-perishable lunches to feed University of Canterbury Students Association volunteers.
The focus of the event today and tomorrow will be the Otago University Students Association archway in Cumberland St.
The other event is RockJam and Friends, with the local children's band and friends playing this afternoon in the Octagon.
