Dunedin Returned and Services Association president Jenepher Glover has become one of the first two women to be voted on to the national executive of the Royal New Zealand RSA.

Ms Glover and a strong delegation of local RSA representatives attended the RNZRSA national council meeting, held in Wellington on October 15 and 16.

At the meeting, Ms Glover and Corina Bruce, of Auckland, were among four people to be elected to the RNZRSA national executive, alongside the national president, two vice-presidents, and eight district presidents.

''I'm very proud to have been elected to the national executive, which I think shows how the RSA members are embracing change,'' Ms Glover said.

The national executive of the RNZRSA was involved in governance and policy, welfare support, remembrance activities, supporting the membership, and working with the Government and other agencies to ensure the best for veterans and their families, Ms Glover said.

''It is also about helping to carry the RSA through the 21st century, managing the change, and bringing the RSA out to the community more,'' she said.

Those changes include the move towards a new national governance structure and the establishment of an RSA National Association, which can be joined online through the RSA website www.rsa.org.nz.

The welfare of veterans and their families continues to be a core activity.

Although Dunedin RSA no longer maintained a clubhouse of its own, the Garrison Club at the Kensington Army Hall was proving a popular meeting place for members, she said.

''There is a good spirit there - the Garrison Club is working well.''
