Seven over the limit fail to impress

That seven drunk drivers were caught at the weekend has disappointed Dunedin police.

A 24-year-old man recorded a breath alcohol level of 477mcg when stopped in Kildare St, Waikouaiti, at 3.40am on Saturday.

Later that morning, the police impairment prevention team was testing drivers in South Otago.

They caught a 21-year-old man in Owaka Valley at 10am, who recorded 293mcg, and a 29-year-old man who recorded 648mcg.

Two Dunedin men who came to police attention early on Sunday for failing to indicate were also found to be over the limit.

A 37-year-old recorded 968mcg, and a 31-year-old recorded 513mcg.

At 2am on Sunday, a 29-year-old woman was stopped in Hillside Rd after running a red light. She recorded 600mcg.

About an hour later, a 19-year-old woman was stopped after being spotted weaving in Princes St. She recorded 508mcg.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said the raft of drink drivers was disappointing, and they were putting members of the public at risk.

"We’ll continue to focus on catching them."
