A magnolia tree shows off its flowering power with an early display at the corner of Queen and Warrender Sts in Dunedin yesterday. Magnolias are known to occasionally flower early, but more commonly flower in late August and September.

Could be worse - data from the Danish government shows that the Greenland ice sheet lost 8.5bn tons of surface mass on Tuesday alone. A further 8.4bn tons was lost on Thursday with the highest air temperature ever recorded on Wednesday!
