Spate of burglaries in city

A recent spate in burglaries and thefts from vehicles is concerning Dunedin police, who are warning people not to leave valuables in cars or at unsecured properties.

Early yesterday police received reports of thefts and burglaries in Woodhaugh, Brighton, Wakari and Kaikorai.

Acting Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said items were taken from a car parked at Dunedin International Airport.

The occupants of a Beresford St house found their front door had been ‘‘jemmied'', although entry had not been gained and nothing was stolen, Acting Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

A large amount of scrap metal was reported stolen from the Brighton dump, four mag wheels were taken from a Helensburgh Rd carport and stereo speakers were stolen from a car in Cannington Rd.
