On Saturday, families had the chance top pick up myriad pre-loved sporting goods from King’s High School for free as part of Dream South D’s sport equipment free giveaway.
The event, called Sports Reconnect, was held to help children stay active when equipment was a hurdle.
Dream South D project lead Rosie Hill said they got a load of the gear from Sports Otago, as well as through donations from the local community.
‘‘It’s all free — the whole idea really is just keep kids in sport and keep families active.’’
This was the second year they have held the event.
The day was possible through partnerships with Sport Otago, King’s High School, Queen’s High School and the University of Otago’s UniCrew.
Dream South D was also handing out small basics such as hair ties, deodorant, mouth guards, shin guards, and some bubbles.
Ms Hill said it was now mid-season for a lot of sports, and it was the time of year when people may have lost a shin guard or a shoe.
There was also a large range of different items that may be perfect for the right child.
Ms Hill said there was a set of left-handed child-sized golf clubs that would not be useful to most, but extremely useful for the right person.
Dunedin resident Janosch Kwak, 9, is just about to begin playing hockey this year and had found a stick along with some balls.
He was also quite keen on Frisbee golf, and was happy to have found two Frisbees to take home.
