St Joseph's Cathedral School gave buckets filled with joy to St Leonards School yesterday.

After the recent deaths of Ellen (6) and Bradley (9) Livingstone, who attended St Leonards School, St Joseph's wanted to do something to bring smiles back to the faces of the St Leonards pupils.

St Joseph's organised a bake sale and raised $230 to buy the Bucket Filler of the Week Cup for the grieving school.

St Leonards principal Jo Wilson said the cup would be presented weekly to the pupil who ''filled the buckets'' of their peers through kind deeds.

St Joseph's gesture - which showed ''that everybody ... is still thinking of us'' - was a ''lovely thought'', she said.

St Joseph's Cathedral School pupil Ollie McKewen (10) said his school wanted ''to make sure other communities know we are behind them''.

''If any disaster hits, we are there to help them,'' he said.

Four pupils presented the cup to the school. They said they were pleased to support their peers during a difficult time.

Mrs Wilson said the school community was healing and had taken a train trip on Saturday from the funds raised by an auction organised by school alumni.

The support of the wider community had ''been amazing and hasn't ... stopped'', she said.
