Street lights off due to power switch

A malfunctioning power switch left much of Dunedin without street lights for about an hour tonight.

An Aurora Energy spokeswoman said Transpower was working on the power supply at Halfway Bush earlier in the evening, and while going through the process of restoring supply, it was discovered a switch was not operating correctly.

''This needed to be checked before supply could be safely restored.

''The delay in switching resulted in the street lights to several areas of Dunedin not being turned on at the correct time.

''The work at Halfway Bush did not affect any customer power supply.''

The affected street lighting was restored by 7pm.
