Suspicious bin fires

A spate of suspicious bin fires across Dunedin continues, with a further three over the weekend.

A Fire Communications spokesman said the first suspected arson was a skip fire on Portobello Rd about 11.40pm on Friday.

The next callout was to a suspicious wheelie-bin fire at 12.45am on Saturday.

The appliance called to the fire came across another wheelie-bin fire on George St while on the way to the scene, he said.

All three fires were put out quickly.

The latest suspicious fires come after three arsons the previous weekend, which included commercial wheelie-bin being set alight.

In late July, an arsonist melted eight wheelie bins in the Mornington and City Rise areas and evaded an extensive police patrol.
