If a skateboard is your form of transport, Dunedin's hills make for a painful ride to work or study, so why not drive one instead?

The electric longboard has arrived in the country and can reach speeds of up to 40kmh, with no physical effort required, Dunedin stockist Eamon Maze says.

The electric longboard is exactly that - a long board with an electric motor. Mr Maze said it was the ''Rolls-Royce of skateboards''.

Theidea was to maximise a skateboard's usefulness as a form of transport.

Mr Maze first saw the board in use in Brisbane and asked the young man skating along the waterfront where he could find one.

Mr Maze offered to sell the product in New Zealand. Powered by a 200W brushless electric motor, the board handles like a surfboard and is controlled by a remote control.
