In the aftermath of a massive fire at its Hornby plant in Christchurch, Ravensdown says it is too soon to say what the impact could be on fertiliser manufacture at its Ravensbourne site in Dunedin.

Tuesday's fire started at the eastern end of the company's storage store and the intake where it took delivery of bulk product for processing, which was badly damaged.

Yesterday, a spokesman said the company was taking stock, talking to customers and forecasting demand to see what it could do by employing some logistical flexibility.

The company had plenty of superphosphate and other products ready for despatch, prepared for spring. It had good stocks of mainline products across the South Island store network. Manufacturing at Hornby was not affected. None of the 57 staff were injured.
