Terrier 'had accidentally bitten his owner's finger'

The bite a dog gave a man in Dunedin on Monday night is not being treated as an act of aggression.

Dunedin City Council compliance, animal and parking services team leader Peter Hanlin said police requested an animal services officer in Brighton after a 47-year-old man was bitten by a dog on Monday night.

''Our officer investigated and found a Staffordshire bull terrier had accidentally bitten his owner's finger while [the owner was] attending to an injury on the dog.

''We are satisfied that this was not an act of aggression by the dog and no further action was taken.''
