A campaign has been launched to encourage residents to ''Tidy the Taieri''.

Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board member and Tidy the Taieri co-ordinator Phillipa Bain revealed the details of the campaign at the board meeting last week.

The campaign, in collaboration with the Dunedin City Council and Keep Dunedin Beautiful, would be held during the Festival of the Plain in Mosgiel from February 21.

The proposed activities in the campaign include:

A competition for pupils to collect litter.

A workshop on waste minimisation.

A pop-up shop selling products made from recycled items.

Promoting an anti-litter message.

Investigating the council installing a rubbish bin and dispenser of dog-poo bags in Gladstone Rd, somewhere between Riccarton Rd and Gordon Rd.

Encouraging people to ''adopt a spot'' in the Taieri to keep litter-free.

Investigating an ''e-waste'' collection drop spot.

Having a stall promoting the campaign at the festival.

Board chairwoman Sarah Nitis moved the board support the campaign proposal and that Mrs Bain be the campaign co-ordinator and provide a campaign budget at the next board meeting in February.

Mrs Bain seconded the motion and all members voted in favour.
