Placemakers Dunedin staff (from left) owner and operator Justin Macready, showroom team leader Gerrard Dassen and administrator Gwen Macready prepare blue sausages to raise funds for Blue September, the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s national awareness campaign.

The sausages — made by Leckies Butchery —  and blue baking were sold at Placemakers Dunedin and Mosgiel, and a silent auction held, to raise awareness and funds for research projects and education campaigns and to provide support services for survivors and their families.

Mr Macready said he encouraged staff and customers to get checked, because prostate cancer killed more than 600 New Zealand men every year.
