A police spokeswoman said those involved had minor injuries. St John said ambulance staff did not attend.

With roads slippery due to wet weather, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen urged Dunedin motorists to watch their following distances and not get distracted.

As mornings grew darker with the approach of winter, motorists should ensure they had their headlights on, he said.
