Emergency services were called to a paddock off Henley-Berwick Rd shortly after 9am.
A police spokesman said St John was initially called to the incident and notified police after the ambulance arrived.
The driver was conscious and being assessed by paramedics when officers arrived, the spokesman said.
A crew from the Outram Volunteer Fire Brigade also attended.
A St John spokesman said the driver was transported to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.
