A Dunedin tour company is expanding operations to involve viewings of fur seals and sea lions.

Yesterday, the Department of Conservation advertised an application by Dunedin-based UntamedNZ to add the viewings to its tours.

The proposed sites are at the Moeraki Boulders, Katiki Point, Sandfly Bay, Allans Beach, Nugget Point, Surat Bay, Rakiura and Ulva Island.

The application said appropriate viewing distances and techniques would be adhered to at all times.

There would be about 75 trips a year, running year-round, but more frequently in summer.

UntamedNZ owner Mateo Winter said many of his clients were interested in viewing seals and sea lions.

He would ensure it was done in a non-intrusive way, he said.

The public can make submissions on the application until December 11.
