A 6-year-old Dunedin boy's wish came true at the weekend.

Brayden Warnock-Hannon, who suffered serious burns in February this year, had a day to remember when he was taken for a ride in the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter by pilot Craig Carmichael on Saturday.

Asked about the 10-minute trip, Brayden, with a big smile on his face, said, "It was cool. I saw cows".

His special day did not end there.

Waiting for him in the hanger when he returned was his special wish - a Nintendo Wii.

"Cool," he said.

Brayden had played with the video game while recovering from his injuries in hospital and it was a useful tool in his rehabilitation, his mother, Angela Warnock, said.

"It is a bit more fun than taking part in physio."

But the High Street School pupil would still have to complete his homework and household tasks before being allowed to use the game, she said.

Make A Wish New Zealand was behind Brayden's special day.

It granted about 160 wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses each year.
