A woman is being treated in hospital after she and her two dogs were rescued from a house fire in Dunedin early this morning.

The blaze was "well involved" when fire crews arrived at the St Leonards Drive property about 3am and rescued her from the second storey, fire communications shift manager Karl Patterson said.

She was taken to Dunedin Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Fire safety investigators are at the property.
