Woman seriously injured after car rolls

An 80-year-old woman has been freed from her vehicle and taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries after her car rolled in central Dunedin this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene where one person was trapped after a vehicle rolled on Alva St.

A police spokeswoman said police were alerted to the incident about 4.25pm.

There was a heavy police presence at the scene where several Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews worked to free the trapped woman.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said a seriously injured 80-year-old woman had been extricated from the wreck and was taken to Dunedin Hospital.

No other vehicles were involved.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
