Celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the end of World War 1 were held around the country today, ahead of services to be held on Armistice Day.
While the main services will be held on Tuesday, RSA president Robin Klitscher said that did mean a subdued affair today.
"The service at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul was quite impressive," Mr Klitscher said.
"They had a brass band, a pipe band and all the colours of the army, navy and air force were paraded."
He said the significance of the event, as well as renewed interest from the public, meant more effort had gone in to this year's celebrations.
"There is huge interest in Anzac Days now, and if anyone had predicted that 20 years ago they would have been laughed out of court.
"The return of the unknown warrior was another one too where the response was greater than anyone could have predicted," he said.
Ceremonies will begin at 11am on Tuesday, with events in Wellington and Auckland taking place at the cities' war memorials.
National Archives will open a new exhibition themed `Coming Home' to mark the occasion. An armistice was signed at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, marking the end of World War 1.
