Christchurch police are still in the dark about how a teenager received critical injuries last week.
A caretaker found the 18-year-old in Gloucester Street near Chancery Arcade, about 7am on Friday.
He was admitted to Christchurch Hospital's intensive care unit in a critical condition.
Inquiries were continuing and police were working through information, Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey said today.
The man's condition had improved but he was still in the hospital's intensive care unit, Mr Harvey said.
