Gulati Brothers Enterprises Ltd applied for an off-licence to operate a liquor store in Tai Tapu in the vacant Belleza Boutique building on Christchurch Akaroa Rd. But the business has now withdrawn its application to the Selwyn District Council.
The application drew 54 objections. Police and the Canterbury District Health Board medical officer of health were among the objectors.
An email from the district council said: "The applicant informed the chief licensing inspector that he wouldn't want to go against the community decisions or to upset the community.
"He would like to operate a business with community support."
The Tai Tapu Community Committee also opposed the application.
Committee chairman Gerald Carter said it was great news and he is happy with the outcome.
