Court staff to vote on collective agreement

Some court staff look set to sign a collective employment agreement with the Ministry of Justice.

The National Union of Public Employees (Nupe) has reached agreement with the ministry, and in a joint media statement issued today, Nupe said the offer would now be put to its 125 members for ratification.

Tony Fisher, general manager district courts, said the ministry was delighted to have reached an accord with Nupe over pay talks.

Nupe's lead advocate, Les Bryce, said that the bargaining had been completed in good faith.

"We are confident that this is the best offer available within the ministry's budgetary constraints. It recognises the valuable contribution made by our members to the justice system," Mr Bryce said.

Meanwhile, there has been no settlement in a pay dispute between the ministry and its employees who belong to the Public Service Association, which has seen courts disrupted throughout the country.
