A doctor who admitted three historic charges of sexually attacking three girls under 12 was today sentenced to two years in prison.

Ronald Bruce Vautier, 59, was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland.

In February, Vautier admitted charges of indecent assault against the girls between 1979 and 1988.

The children lived or holidayed in a small community on the Coromandel Peninsula where Vautier lived when he was not in Auckland.

The name of the community has been suppressed.

Prosecutors withdrew two other charges, including rape.

A year ago, Vautier was told by a District Court judge to stop practising in return for interim name suppression.

Name suppression was lifted in April.
