Driver rams cop cars in stolen truck

A stolen truck was rammed into three police cars as a wanted driver made a bid to escape in Christchurch overnight.

Police said a truck was reported stolen and was tracked by GPS. It ended up parked in the suburb of Phillipstown at 5.30am.

A spokeswoman said when police arrived to recover the stolen vehicle, a man took off in the truck, ploughing into three stationary police cars as he made his getaway.

The truck was tracked to Linwood where cordons were put in place on nearby streets.

The wanted driver was found and arrested, said the spokeswoman.
