The sister of murdered Feilding farmer Scott Guy says the town must stay positive despite the deaths of three people in an apparent murder-suicide - the latest in a string of tragedies to hit the Manawatu town.

The discovery of the Lees Rd bodies comes after the murder of Scott Guy last month and the deaths of pilot Jessica Neeson, 27, and her student Patricia Smallman, 64, in an air collision near Feilding Aerodrome, and this month's death of local soldier Tim O'Donnell, 28, in Afghanistan.

Mr Guy, 31, a farmer was shot dead in the driveway of his farm south of Feilding on July 8 and his killer remains at large.

Nikki Guy told Radio New Zealand today her family were told about the three latest deaths before the public and were shocked to hear the news.

"The police had actually rung my parents and let us know... before it was public," Ms Guy said.

It was important that the town remained positive despite more bad news, she said.

"Probably what matters now is how we react to all this stuff and about keeping positive and not focusing on the negatives," she said.

She said Scott would have wanted their family to continue to live their lives and remain positive.

"If our lives stop because of what of happened to Scott then the person that took him has won but if we carry on then we win and Scott wins," Ms Guy said.

She said she knew what the family of the three deceased were going through and felt for their families.

"We're sad that something else had happened and we feel so much for the families that have been affected by this because we know exactly what they are going through," Ms Guy said.

Feilding will be holding a vigil starting Friday afternoon following requests from residents.

The vigil would help strengthen the community and was about "saying look we are all hurting but we're going to come together and this is going to make us stronger," Ms Guy said.

The slaying of her brother has prompted Nikki Guy to run for Palmerston North City Council's upcoming elections.
