Four injured in wrong-way motorway crash

One person is in a critical condition after a car driving the wrong way on an Auckland motorway hit another car head-on.

Emergency services were called to the Hobson Street onramp to the northwestern and southern motorways about 5.30am.

A police spokeswoman said a car driving the wrong way down the westbound lane of the motorway hit another head-on.

She said four people were injured, with one critical and another two in serious condition.

The road remained blocked.

Meanwhile, State Highway 29 on the Lower Kaimai Range is closed after a truck turned over, spilling pallets on the road.

Contractors were on their way to clear the road.
