A 13-year-old girl remains in a stable condition following a dog attack in South Auckland late Tuesday night.
A family dog attacked the girl at an address in Waiuku, around midnight on Tuesday.
She underwent surgery on puncture wounds to her head and face yesterday at Middlemore Hospital in Kids First Surgical, the hospital's children ward.
Two dogs were taken from the family home, though just one of the dogs -- a male mastiff -- was involved in the attack.
The dogs remained impounded at the Pukekohe dog pound this morning.
An investigation into the incident was unde rway, a Waikato District Council spokeswoman said, and an update on the inquiry should be available around lunch-time.
The attack on the girl happened just nine hours after a 31-year-old Hamilton woman was attacked by her 5-year-old mastiff cross.
