Hamilton bus driver assaulted

Police are hunting for a man who assaulted a Hamilton bus driver when he stepped in to protect a woman during a domestic dispute.

Police said the man attacked the bus driver at about 1.30pm yesterday on Heaphy Terrace, outside the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton.

"The bus driver, who was on his first day on the job, had intervened in a domestic dispute in which a woman was being assaulted by a man," police said in a statement.

"The man then attacked the bus driver who suffered bruising to his face."

The wanted man is described as Maori, dressed in a grey tee-shirt and blue jeans. He also has should length hair, police said.
