A 19-year-old Dunedin man will appear in court today on robbery charges after a handbag snatching incident in central Dunedin last night.
Police said a 50-year-old woman was knocked to the ground during the attack at 9pm in Princess Street.
The man ran off with the handbag and has left the scene in a vehicle.
But he enjoyed only two and a half hours of freedom. The arrested man will appear in Dunedin District Court today.
Police appealed for any witnesses to come forward, particularly two men who tried to help the woman.
