Knife, car seized after university stabbing

Police have found a knife thought to have been used in a double stabbing at an Auckland university car park yesterday.

A car believed to have been used by the offender was also seized and would be examined forensically today.

Two men were taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries after the stabbing at Unitec's Mt Albert campus just before 2.30pm. One man in his 20s had critical injuries to his chest and the second received serious back injuries.

The attacker fled.

The campus was hosting a music festival, Sounds in the Sun.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton of Avondale CIB said a member of the public followed the Toyota Altezza car after the incident and blocked it in at another Unitec carpark nearby.

"The occupants then got out of the car and dispersed into the crowd," he said.

"We believe that another, very similar vehicle may also have been used by the offenders or their associates and are appealing for information about it."

The two injured men were in a stable condition today.

More than 25 witnesses had been interviewed overnight and police said they still wanted to hear from anyone with information about the attack.
